Process
At Arte Oro, the process of creating bespoke jewelry is a highly personalized and collaborative journey, ensuring each piece is a wearable work of art that tells a unique story. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the process:
Initial Consultation
The journey begins with an in-depth consultation, either in person or virtually, where we discuss your vision, inspiration, and the story you want the piece to convey. We explore your preferences in materials, gemstones, and design elements. If you have inherited pieces or gemstones you’d like to incorporate, we’ll assess their suitability for the new design. This stage is crucial for understanding your expectations and budget.
Material and Gemstone Selection
After the consultation, we guide you through selecting the finest materials, including precious metals and gemstones. Our gemstones are sourced from trusted suppliers, and we offer a curated selection based on cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. If your design requires something specific, we will source a range of options for you to choose from.
Design Development
Our in-house designers create hand-drawn sketches or computer-aided designs (CAD) to bring your vision to life. This phase is collaborative, with multiple iterations to refine the design until it perfectly aligns with your expectations. We may also create wax or metal models for you to visualize the piece.
Design Sign-Off
Once the design is finalized, we present detailed drawings or photo-realistic images for your approval. At this stage, any modifications are carefully considered, as changes after sign-off can be complex or costly. Once you’re satisfied, we proceed to the crafting phase.
Crafting the Piece
The crafting phase is where your bespoke jewelry truly comes to life, combining artistry, precision, and craftsmanship. Here’s a detailed look at the process:
-
The journey begins with preparing the selected precious metals, such as gold, platinum, or silver. These metals are melted and cast into the desired preliminary shape using molds. Depending on the design, techniques like forging (hammering and shaping the metal) or rolling (to achieve specific thickness or textures) may be used. This foundation is essential for ensuring durability and precision in the final piece.
-
For intricate or highly detailed designs, a wax prototype is created. This step involves hand-carving the design into a block of wax, providing an exact replica of the final piece. The wax model serves two purposes: it allows for adjustments before committing to the final metal casting, and it forms the basis for a mold used in the lost-wax casting process. This method ensures every design detail is captured flawlessly.
-
The wax model is encased in a heat-resistant mold material to create a cavity that replicates the design. Through the lost-wax casting process, the wax is melted away, leaving the cavity ready for molten metal. The chosen metal is then poured into the cavity, cooling and solidifying to form the raw structure of the jewelry piece.
-
Once the metal has been cast, any additional components—such as clasps, chains, or intricate detailing—are assembled. For multi-piece designs, individual parts are carefully aligned and soldered together using a flame or laser for seamless connections. This step demands precision to ensure the structural integrity and aesthetic flow of the piece.
-
Setting gemstones is one of the most delicate and skill-intensive parts of the process. Each stone is meticulously examined for quality—its cut, clarity, color, and carat weight are verified before being set. Using techniques like bezel setting, prong setting, or pave, each gemstone is securely embedded into the design. This step ensures that the gems are perfectly aligned and enhance the overall brilliance of the piece.
-
For custom engravings or intricate decorative elements, master craftsmen use hand tools or laser technology to etch patterns, initials, or motifs onto the metal. This step adds a personal touch, further emphasizing the uniqueness of the jewelry.
-
The piece undergoes thorough polishing to enhance its luster and remove any imperfections. Depending on the client’s preference, different finishes—such as high polish, matte, brushed, or hammered textures—are applied to achieve the desired look. This final touch brings out the full beauty of the materials and craftsmanship.
-
Every piece is subjected to rigorous quality checks. Each gemstone is inspected to ensure it is securely set, the engravings are flawless, and the overall construction meets Arte Oro’s standards of excellence. If necessary, final adjustments are made to ensure perfection.
This crafting process blends traditional techniques, honed over decades, with modern technologies to achieve unparalleled quality and artistry.
